Jill Thomas, LISW, a mental health therapist certified in treating perinatal mood disorders (PMD), discussed the difficulties adjusting to motherhood and the onset of post-partum anxiety and/or depression. Jill shared the factors that put women at risk of developing post-partum issues, warning signs to look out for, and treatment options (fortunately, post-partum issues are very treatable!) Research shows 1 in 7 women struggle with anxiety or depression after having a baby, and often don’t know how to recognize signs of it or how to seek help. Learn what you can do to prevent post-partum depression and how to help others who are struggling or at-risk of developing it. We practiced some mood-boosting activities to reduce the risk and talked about how to take care of yourself. We know that after all, mommies have needs too!
